Hoteliers, excursion providers, DMC’s among those to benefit from free developmental workshops!

SAINT LUCIA (January 31, 2014) – Tourism partners across a wide spectrum of the industry are in line to benefit from training in key frontline areas designed to better target the British market.

The training, taking the form of a series of workshop seminars, comes as a direct result of a partnership involving the Saint Lucia Tourist Board, the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) and UK charity Travel Foundation.

Taking place From February 3^rd -4^th in the north and then again from February 6^th -7^th in the south, the training will include hoteliers, excursion providers, destination management companies and taxi drivers. Both entities will be presenting on ideas, trends and opportunities to improve and thereby increase visitor expenditure and passenger traffic to the island particularly from the United Kingdom market.

The programme will also see the introduction to a training manual on how to design and then sell excursion products to UK tour operators. Over the following five months, there will be ongoing support offered electronically from the Travel Foundation to help grow on-island businesses.

One lucky winner will be chosen to take their business offer directly to tour operators, hotels and destination management companies with a place at the Saint Lucia Showcase in London this September. This fantastic opportunity includes flights and accommodation in London.

Julie Middleton, the Travel Foundation’s Industry Programmes Manger said, “we are especially interested in excursion providers who currently run informal excursions; boat trips, guided walks, community tours.  Our training can really help them to increase business.”

With 13 weekly flights, and plans to boost revenue and passenger traffic from the UK to Saint Lucia, it is important to review how Saint Lucia meets the needs of the British guests and additionally to get an update from the UK industry.

Deputy Director of Tourism Tracey Warner-Arnold said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for excursion entrepreneurs to move up a gear and expand their businesses. And for the lucky winner who gets a place at the Saint Lucia Showcase in London this September, it could be life-changing.”

As part of the overall programme, industry partners will also benefit from training in Crisis Planning and Management on February 5^th. Topics to be covered include What constitutes an emergency situation; Impacts on a destination, local population and the travel industry; Why plan for a Crisis; Managing a Crisis or Emergency situation and Post Incident Management focusing on Customer Care, Destination Support, Staff support, and Review of emergency procedures.
